Katy Brown was born in 1976 and studied painting at Winchester School of Art. She has shown in London, Bath, Cornwall and her native home in Jersey. Working in oils and glaze Katy applies marks and layers of fluid colour to capture fleeting moments with an almost spiritual sagacity. She describes the act of painting “as a process of distillation that occurs through the conscious and unconscious mind and senses, absorbing visual information and allowing the idea to filter through and pour onto the canvas, creating an emotional ambience that is both contemplative and compelling .”
Brown has been influenced by artists such as Mark Rothko, Sigmar Polka, Marielle Neudecker and Avis Newman
Heath Hearn was born in 1966 in Derbyshire. He studied art in Australia before settling in his creative wellspring of Cornwall, which is pivotal to his work. The simple lifestyle he leads there enables him to tune into the resonances around him, which encompassed earlier artists who found inspiration there. His work has been compared to the St Ives School modernists of the 1950’s and 60’s, notably Roger Hilton, Ben Nicholson and Peter Lanyon. Much of Hearn’s work is hinged on a tension between the figurative and the abstract, and while all of his paintings are charged with energy, it is an energy that is engagingly relaxed
