Constance Slaughter >

Constance Slaughter, whose work was selected for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and very recently for the 2012 Door Prize for Painting, is a painter of the everyday.

Each of her paintings is a stage for dramas presenting a cast of toys and animals, where she mixes reality and fantasy, humour with melancholy. In her paper house mobiles, inspired by Gaston Bachelard’s Poetics of Space, she also reinterprets the idea of home as a place of reverie and imagination. Her work is like a suspended moment in a narrative which is left for the viewer to develop.
