Susan Bower RBA ROI
Susan Bower was born in 1953. After graduating in Biology and Psychology, she returned to her native Yorkshire and a lifelong love of painting.
In 1985, she began painting professionally and was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1992 and the Royal Society of British Artists in 1998. Susan has exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy (for the last twelve years) and the Mall Galleries. She has won many awards including the Alan Gourley Memorial Award at the ROI in 2000.
Susan has gravitated towards oil painting of figures. She paints in a spontaneous and unconventional format and her tableaux of life often make sharp comments on people and the ‘human condition’. By using oils, she is able to develop the colours over a period of time – enabling her paintings to take on a life of their own.
