Swiss Landscapes

The Minster Gallery is pleased to announce “Swiss Landscapes”, a new exhibition of works by Taha Afshar. The paintings span two years and were completed during several trips to Switzerland.

While Afshar’s paintings seek to explore the interplay between the subject and the objective, with time playing a key role in adding layers of lived experience to the landscape’s representation, a new perspective emerges from his more recent work. The images are clean and crisp, reflecting a different approach to painting. There is less doubt and reiteration, and more focussed emphasis on getting things right the first time. The light is bright and clear, revealing both the momentary beauty of the landscape, as well as its timeless majesty. His manner is precise, planned and naturalistic, inviting the viewer into the scene.
